Class Descriptions

Hatha

Hatha classes combine physical postures (asana) with breath practice (pranayama) to develop balance, strength and flexibility. Postures are often held for a number of counts, encouraging focus on alignment and mindfulness. This makes it a perfect class to start with for beginners.

There are many variations of hatha yoga and we'd highly recommend trying classes with different teachers to find a style you connect with.

Yoga for Sport

Yoga for sport is a great session for recovery whilst also allowing flexibility and balance to be improved, which are often the neglected aspects of fitness. Although the sessions are aimed at recovery, still expect to sweat and work.

Ideal for contact sports to help aches and pains, but also any sport where a greater (and stronger) range of motion would be beneficial.

Yoga Strong

In our quest for increased flexibility, it can be easy to forget the important role the strength of our muscles play in stabilising the joints (particularly for anyone with hypermobility!). Using the framework of the traditional postures you are familiar with from your regular practice, these classes will use the resistance of your body weight to develop strength & power. We will use whole body movements as well as targeting isolated muscle groups both dynamically & with longer holds to build endurance & stamina.

These playful sessions will help you to build the strength & awareness in the body required to work towards some of the more physically challenging asana as well as improving your movement in day to day life.

Pregnancy Yoga

Pregnancy classes aim to give you time to relax, focus on your baby and think about your wishes for the birth. Women often report reduced aches and pains and better quality of sleep as well as improved posture and body awareness and more confidence with positions and breathing for labour. Both women who are expecting their first baby and those with older children at home appreciate the luxury of an hour away from their busy lives to focus on the pregnancy, the baby and their own body. All of this in a very friendly atmosphere, giving you the opportunity to meet other local pregnant women and share your journey with them.

The first Monday of each month will be a Birth Ball class, when you’ll need to bring your own ball – apart from that all equipment is supplied.

Restorative

Restorative yoga classes allow you to press the reset button on the stresses of day to day life, providing you with a nourishing and easeful practice. You will settle into supported postures through the use of props, remaining here for a longer periods of time.

All physical systems benefit from these levels of deep relaxation and stillness through the release of any muscular tension, centring the breath and body.

Yoga Flow

The perfect way to start your day, this class is a lovely blend of both hatha and vinyasa flow, combining the dynamic elements of a flow class with some longer holds to tap into deeper strength work through the body & core.

The class will always begin with a series of grounding postures, before working through a number of sun salutations to warm up. From here we will progress on to challenging sequences designed to bring focus & awareness to the body & mind, finally ending in a lovely long savasana, leaving you energised & prepared for the rest of your day & weekend ahead.
