This class is the ideal first step on your yoga journey; it is open to anyone but is designed especially for beginners.
During these sessions you will work through many of the fundamental postures & breathing exercises practiced in other classes & discover what the unusual terms & phrases mean that are commonly used.
You'll take a little longer in each posture, fine tuning the alignment & technique as well as learning any relevant modifications that are right for your body. These will be more interactive sessions with the opportunity to ask questions & are perfect for anyone just starting out on their yoga journey, or practitioners looking to refine & learn more about the foundations of yoga.
All of the classes at Warrior & Wild are open to beginners & all levels, so you are welcome to join this class alongside other timetabled sessions, or just stay with this class for as long as you like.
Express Lunchtime Yoga
This express 50 minute lunchtime class will be a mixture of slow flows & lovely stretches to build strength & flexibility; perfect for anyone on their lunch hour!
The sessions are suitable for all levels from complete beginners & we will pay special attention to the neck, shoulders & hips - those areas that can hold a lot of tightness & tension for anyone who spends a lot of time at a desk. As well as working through a series of postures to find ease in the body, each class will finish with a delicious savasana, so you return to work physically & mentally refreshed.
£10 per class or 1 membership credit.
Vinyasa
Vinyasa flow provides a more dynamic class, encouraging movement on the breath to get the blood flowing, build strength but still focus the mind. Sequences often work towards a peak pose, with modifications provided to allow students of all abilities to leave feeling invigorated.
Hatha
Hatha classes combine physical postures (asana) with breath practice (pranayama) to develop balance, strength and flexibility. Postures are often held for a number of counts, encouraging focus on alignment and mindfulness. This makes it a perfect class to start with for beginners.
There are many variations of hatha yoga and we'd highly recommend trying classes with different teachers to find a style you connect with.
Yoga for Sport
Yoga for sport is a great session for recovery whilst also allowing flexibility and balance to be improved, which are often the neglected aspects of fitness. Although the sessions are aimed at recovery, still expect to sweat and work.
Ideal for contact sports to help aches and pains, but also any sport where a greater (and stronger) range of motion would be beneficial.
Flex, Flow & Strength
Suitable for all levels – beginners welcome! A dynamic class, taking inspiration from Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow, Rocket and Restorative/Yin yoga. The class will focus on alignment and movement with breath. We start the class bringing our energy up with sun salutations, flowing through into a standing balance sequence to improve stability. We follow on to a seated sequence to help lengthen and prepare the spine for the finishing series. Here we begin to calm the body, with some wonderful restorative positions and inversions, preparing you for rest and leaving you feeling calmly invigorated and in balance.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy classes aim to give you time to relax, focus on your baby and think about your wishes for the birth. Women often report reduced aches and pains and better quality of sleep as well as improved posture and body awareness and more confidence with positions and breathing for labour. Both women who are expecting their first baby and those with older children at home appreciate the luxury of an hour away from their busy lives to focus on the pregnancy, the baby and their own body. All of this in a very friendly atmosphere, giving you the opportunity to meet other local pregnant women and share your journey with them.
The first Monday of each month will be a Birth Ball class, when you’ll need to bring your own ball – apart from that all equipment is supplied.
Restorative
Restorative yoga classes allow you to press the reset button on the stresses of day to day life, providing you with a nourishing and easeful practice. You will settle into supported postures through the use of props, remaining here for a longer periods of time.
All physical systems benefit from these levels of deep relaxation and stillness through the release of any muscular tension, centring the breath and body.
Yoga Flow
The perfect way to start your day, this class is a lovely blend of both hatha and vinyasa flow, combining the dynamic elements of a flow class with some longer holds to tap into deeper strength work through the body & core.
The class will always begin with a series of grounding postures, before working through a number of sun salutations to warm up. From here we will progress on to challenging sequences designed to bring focus & awareness to the body & mind, finally ending in a lovely long savasana, leaving you energised & prepared for the rest of your day & weekend ahead.
Sunrise Yoga
Set your intentions for the day with our sunrise yoga classes. These sessions will be the perfect combination of gentle flow to energise & stimulate the body & mind, mixed with gentler hatha based postures to stretch & strengthen the body in preparation for the rest of your day.
(Please note: These classes require a minimum of 3 people to go ahead - due to their early start, if there are not sufficient bookings by 8pm the previous evening, the class will be cancelled & attendees notified by email).
